Fundraiser for injured driver

I know most of you already know about Jim Scribellito and his massive injuries from a dwarf car. You know, we all talk about being a big family and how dwarf racers are like no other kinds of racers and I believe that is so true. So now, I am asking you to back it up. He is still fighting for recovery with major injuries and he has a family who is depending on him.

Jim has been on the ground floor of dwarf car racing here in California. He has a huge heart and is a formidable competitor. He is a man who will never give up and we need to encourage him and let him know we are here and we care.We have not forgotten what he is going through.

WSDCA is going to be accepting donations at the last 2 regional races of the year (Watsonville Oct. 23-24 and Hanford November 14th). If you can help at all, even $5.00 please bring it to me or Frank at the races and we will send it on to Jim. If you want to write a check, I will put it in a packet and send it with the rest. If you want to give cash, we can do that too.
Want to send a card? Bring it to me and I will send it to him.
You can also help by attending his benefit race in Texas (I know it is far from here but you never know)or sending a check to the address below. I just want to give you a heads up because we are going to be asking at these races.

If it were you, I know Jimmy would send a check and I would hope, that you would feel the love and support from your fellow dwarf drivers. Lets step it up, guys. Every little bit helps. Please repost at all the dwarf bulletin boards.

“Run What You Brung” Benefit Race for Racetrack Owner Jim Scribellito October 31

Goliad, Texas, September 23, 2009:

When a fellow racecar driver gets injured, the racing community rallies behind him for support, and such is the case for injured racer and promoter Jim Scribellito, former National Champion and owner of Shady Oaks Speedway in Goliad, Texas. Friends of Scribellito are organizing a benefit race October 31 to help support his family financially and to help keep his dream alive at Shady Oaks Speedway.

On August 8, during a “Beat the Boss” dwarf car race, Scribellito crashed his No. 57 car and suffered two broken shoulders, a broken back and a bruised spinal cord in his neck. He was life-flighted to San Antonio where he was hospitalized for more than two weeks; on August 19, he was transferred to a rehabilitation center in Victoria. The original prognosis was paralysis from the chest down, and just last week, he was able to feel everything on his body and move his legs. “My injuries are extensive, but if you know me, you know I’ll come out of it because I don’t give up easily,” said Scribellito, 52.

The benefit is open to all racers, hence “Run What You Brung,” and there are no set entry fees—donations only. Organizers are expecting more than 200 racers to enter from all over the country, with free camping available onsite. Spectators will pay $10–$15 to attend, and all proceeds will go to the Scribellito family to help cover medical bills and related expenses. “I’m fighting for every inch of every step to move forward,” said Scribellito. “I will be back: I will be there for that benefit even if they have to drag me there.”

There’s just one catch to the benefit: “When I get back, I expect a tidal wave from the crowd,” said Scribellito, who’s known for getting the crowd to do The Wave in the stands.

SCHEDULE: All races begin at 6 p.m. with pit gates and spectator seating opening at 3 p.m. The remaining 2009 car race days are the following Saturday nights: September 26; October 10; October 24; October 31; November 14 and the season closer November 28.

Jan, You are awesome to let everyone know that Jim has been and is a huge part of what this sport is all about. Jim and his family can use all of our prayers and support in any way we can help. I am very proud to say that many people from VRA stepped up and gave over a $120 so far towards the cause. Eric Alton made up some stickers and I handed them out at last weekends race and received far more than I thought i would get for a dozen Stickers. It just goes to show that we are one big family. Also Me and Rob Brown are going to Goliad, Tx over Halloween weekend to see Jim and Show support from his west coast family at His Big benefit race.
I will be at Santa Maria so if you would like a sticker let me know and  any sort of a donation that is made would be going to good cause.

This was posted on the CDCRA site today......

Jim delivered some long awaited good news from a doctor today. He's been suffering from a blood infection this past week. So, a specialist came in to see him for a consultation. The doctor gave him a "movement" test, having Jim move different parts of his body by command. He was able to move certain toes, fingers and arms as requested by the doctor. The doctor stated that he'd seen lots of cases like Jim's. And with this amount of movement this early, he predicted that he'll fully recover. He, of course, didn't & couldn't promise a time-line, but said he saw Jim walking again normally!
That was the best news we have gotten seen the accident! We BOTH needed that news. Times have been tough lately for our family. We have both been hanging on, in our different ways, but this was terrific news. And a huge answer to PRAYERS!
Thank you everyone for your thoughts and prayers!
Laurie, Jim, Anthony, and Rachael
