For the last 14 plus years you have known me as the scribinator running dwarf cars just about anywhere I could find a race. My passion has always been racing and the decisions I have made and the ones I make in the future make for what we all refer to as life. I have been involved in all aspects of our sport right down to building and running Barona Speedway in 1999. I must admit those were very happy times for me. I loved track prep and the rewards that came with all sides of the racing business. I have never stopped looking for that same opportunity again and now I have found it. I have spent the past two weeks locking down a deal to purchase a racetrack in Goliad texas !. It was known as Shady Oaks speedway and operated for the better part of 15 years before the owner got old and was not as healthy as needed to continue. I have opened escrow on this track and plan to move my family to Texas! This may sound crazy to some but I know a good deal when I see one and this place works for my family and I . This time I will own the land, all 57 acres, and get all of the benifits from that. I will not have to share profits with any fair boards or concessionairs. It has all the requirements I need as a Dad,husband and a Promoter. I truely believe I can revive it with my family's help and plan on doing so as soon as I close escrow. I must say that these kind of decisions do not come easily and I have gone back and forth about my decision many times. My wife feels as I do that this a golden opportunity and we should go for it. I plan on selling my business and properties here in California and Arizona to make such a move. this unfortuneatly means I must withdraw from further competition at Ventura Speedway as I must make arrangements for the daunting task of moveing from a place I have lived and worked for 35 years. I have made many friends over the years and you will not be forgotten. I will most certainly miss racing right away but don't worry when the track is finally prepped to race I will be the driver to run those first laps.Wish us luck as I am sure we will need some but overall I think this is the best decision I can make for my and my family's future. It has been nothing short of the best times ever at Ventura and will truely miss y'all.
Congrats Scrib’s, Lots of different emotions from my end…..going to be sad to see you go but so happy for you and your family. This is quit an undertaking! I looked up the track and it says it is a 3/8 clay semi-banked oval. How long has it been closed? Just exactly where is Goliad. Keep us informed and updated on all the progress, when the day comes and you get to the track make sure you send us pictures, it will be fun to track your progress.
Best of luck to you and yours…………..The Lippets

Congratulations on your decision Scribs. I think thats awesome that you and your family are so stoked on your decision to move out there. You will be greatly missed at Ventura, and hopefully i will have the opportunity to race against you again in the future (maybe you'll race dwarfs at your track). I wish you the best of luck with your move, and I'm sure that the track will be nothing other than a HUGE success. Your experience and knowledge will show in your efforts. Best of luck, and it was an honor and pleasure to race with you last year.

Scribs, I wish you and your family all the good luck in the world in your new endeavor in Texas. You were really instrumental in getting me interested in dwarf car racing when my son and I used to watch you race at Barona in the mid to late 90's. I still remember going to your shop and spending what seemed like hours checking out your car and listening to you talk about what it was like racing dwarfs. We had a nice conversation at the national in Death Valley and it was an honor to finally get a chance to race with you. It's too bad I crashed out early and couldn't give you a better run for the money. Anyway, it's a small world and I'm sure we'll meet again some time in the future. Again, good luck to you and your family and above all, HAVE FUN! Tim O'Neill F4
