The Lippert Family was evacuated at 2am this morning due to the fires that are spreading through Sylmar and Granada Hills. Hopefully, they will be lucky enough to be able to get back to their home soon and without any damage to their home. We send our thoughts and prayers to their family....
Kameron & I (Mini #25) tried to make the final mini dwarf race and got de-railed by the Fire/Freeway mess.
We left our house in NW Bakersfield @ 10:30am - got to Castaic at 11:30 am and abruptly stopped. It took another (3 1/2) three and a half hours just to get to Filllmore - We called Mike Cardillo (Mini #51) and took the shortcut thru Moorpark - Well that too was bumper to bumper but it was atleast moving 15-20mph. by the time we got to the 101 it was 4:30pm - 6 hours in the car was not very exciting for my 8 yr old or myself.
So we ended up resting in Ventura and watched a movie and went back home. We drove 250 miles to have dinner and watch a movie.
Oh, well - what we do for RACING...See everyone next year
Our house is still standing but the ash is unbelivable.....we had to use shovels to pick it up! I thank God we have a house to clean up so many others lost theirs. That was a rough day for Ken, all he wanted to do was get back home to get the race trailers and go racing. We were told to evacuter around two in the morning and we had no time to get much of anything. I have lived here all my life and those winds were the worst I have ever been through. See you all next season
Glad to hear you are all ok. We had a fire go past a few years ago behind our house. It was very tense for a couple of days. It was awsome to watch the army of fire fiting that took place.
